After a 25 year hiatus, championship golf is returning to Richmond, Virginia.

The Champions Tour, once known as the Senior PGA Tour, played eight events in Richmond from 1983 to 1990. In 2016, November 3 - 6 will bring the Dominion Charity Classic to the city. It will be the first Champions Tour or PGA Tour event to take place in the region since 1990, and PIASCIK is proud and excited to be a part of this landmark occasion that will give Richmond increased prominence both at home and internationally.

Since it’s inception in 2001, PIASCIK has celebrated it’s strong bonds to and love for Richmond. Ryan Losi, Executive Vice President, sums up the firm’s feelings and intentions, explaining that the company wants to, “Give thanks to the same community that’s done so much for us.” Since the net proceeds from the Dominion Charity Classic will be used to help connect servicemen and servicewomen with potential employers in the civilian sector, the sponsorship aligns perfectly with that goal. While attending, PIASCIK will be entertaining and showing appreciation to it’s own clients from November 4 - 6, bringing more attendees (and more charitable donations) to the event.

The Dominion Charity Classic isn’t the only charitable event that PIASCIK has sponsored, either. As a valued community partner, the company contributes to numerous organizations and charities throughout the Richmond region. The firm has even been instrumental in bringing sporting events back not only to the U.S., but to Richmond specifically.

Until September 2015, the UCI Road World Championships hadn’t been held in the country since 1986. In 2011, PIASCIK’s executive leadership was asked to join with city, state and regional officials to pitch Richmond as the host city. Through the leadership of Steven M. Piascik, CPA, MT, as Board Treasurer of Richmond 2015, Richmond won the bid. As a founding sponsor of the 2015 Championships PIASCIK helped bring more than 600,000 people to Richmond. For nine days people from around the globe enjoyed the town and contributed handsomely to the local economy — the event had an estimated $161 million economic impact to the entire Richmond area.

Similarly, the Dominion Charity Classic will have a large financial impact on the community. Four-time Champions Tour winner Bobby Watkins is a Richmond native who understands the benefits, “This is great news for my hometown of Richmond and the surrounding region as the Dominion Charity Classic is going to benefit and enhance this community in a big way, just like all Champions Tour and PGA TOUR events do at each location on the schedule.”

Richmond has secured the event for the next four years, from 2016 to 2019, and the goal is to keep the event right here in town beyond those four years. PIASCIK’s involvement will continue, too. When talking about the upcoming event, Losi reflects, “This is one way for us to really give back to the community, and also be involved in a pretty big event.” Giving time and money to impactful organizations in the Richmond area is one of PIASCIK’s passions, and the firm wants to continue bringing exposure to the city and the surrounding region.

After all, this wonderful city is a great place to live, work, and play. With any luck, other businesses in the area will also see the value in supporting the Dominion Charity Classic, and the event will be here to stay.
